在学院各个历史时期，中小学干部和教师继续教育都占有重要地位。进入“十一五”，随着中小学教师学历补偿教育的逐渐完成，学院实现了由以学历教育为主到以继续教育为主的转型。截至2008年7月，学院累计培训北京市中小学教师1061961人次。
